The project will include the demolition and removal of an old 1980s block on the South Quay Plazza site on the Isle of Dogs which will be replaced by the construction of a new 68 storey and 36 storey building.

The buildings have been designed by the internationally renowned architects Foster + Partners, but have been dropped in height by several storeys after the original 73 storeys which would have made the building almost the same height as One Canada Square.

Boris Johnson has previously written to Tower Hamlets letting them know that he wouldn’t be calling in the scheme for review, to make it easier for the project to get underway in a swifter manner following previous setbacks in the planning process.

The main tower will be built with more slender dimensions and will be built on two interlocking squares which will maximise the residents of these luxury flats views across greater London. Whilst one part of the structure will rise to 68 storeys the second will rise to 56 storeys and will have a sky garden on top.

The whole construction will take place in two phases, with the smaller being built first and twin tower being built in the second phase. There will be 888 homes in total with 188 being affordable homes.

It’s believed the project will take 5 years to complete with phase one starting next year and phase two starting in 2018.
The building will require a large amount of construction supplies and building products (for example 65,000 cu m of concrete and 60,000 sq m of cladding) and create a large number of construction jobs in the South East.
