The priority of all roofers is safety. Roofing is a high risk job so it’s important that roofers observed the strict regulations and safety procedures in place to protect themselves and other personnel onsite. There are many safety areas that need to be considered when working with roofing products, whether you’re installing a roof or repairing a roof. Here are three safety habits of professional roofers:

1. Planning

Probably the most important habit a roofer can have is proper planning. Remember the old saying: proper planning prevents poor performance, well in the case of roofing poor performance should be the least of your worries, so you need to be sure you understand the requirements of the job and what problems you could face during the project.

2. Removing Hazards

Blocking off the roof so only those people who are supposed to be on the roof should be the first concern of course, but you also need to be thinking about other hazards such as power lines, trip hazards and how they can be mitigated and bear in mind there are still plenty of roofs out there stuffed full of asbestos.

3. Safe Material Handling

You've got to handle roofing materials with care, with gloves being essential for handling many items such as slate and metal sheeting. You've got to keep in mind the material’s weight and store it as close as possible to the place they’ll be used to ensure the project can be seamlessly completed on time in the safest possible way.
