Go-ahead for Plymouth’s tallest building
Plymouth City Council has agreed to plans for the construction of the city’s tallest building, a £32m high rise student accommodation scheme.
The 22-storey building should be completed by next summer in time for the new academic year according to developers Knightsbridge Student Housing.
The scheme which has been developed in consultation with Plymouth City Council has designed by Boyes Rees Architects will accommodate 507 students. The city council’s policy has been for a preference for tall buildings in the city centre and this will be they city’s tallest at 78m high towering above the city’s present tallest building the Civic Centre which is 53m high.
The site at the northern end of Armada Way is in a prominent location facing the junction of Cobourg Street and Western Approach; as such Beckley Court will be a new landmark on the Plymouth skyline.
The Student Housing Company already operates the Astor House building which holds around 520 Plymouth University students.
