Glasgow £104m Station Revamp Unveiled
The £104m transformation of Glasgow Queen Street Station has been announced by Network Rail.
The plans reveal fresh information about the proposed £104m redevelopment of the station with work to start in 2015 with big changes including the design of the façade and the shape of the roof.
The redevelopment will improve how the station interacts with the rest of Glasgow whilst improving the experience of passengers and implementing an overhaul of the rail network infrastructure operational capabilities.
The redevelopment of the station is part of the wider Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) which is aimed at electrifying the routes throughout central Scotland in the next few years.
Transport Minister for Scotland Keith Brown said: “The redevelopment of Queen Street station will be another huge benefit of EGIP, which has already delivered the stunning new-look £25m Haymarket Station in Edinburgh, as well as improving journeys and facilities for passengers at all points in between.”
Key features include:
- New landmark modern station
- Create new passenger facilities on two levels on the east side
- Double public floorspace
- Extend platforms
- Enhance waiting areas
